I didn’t get out to as many games as I would have liked this year, and the truth be told I didn’t even get to an entire game as this one was rain shortened. These may have been the best seats I have ever had a Roger Dean, being able to sit in the air conditioning and watch from this angle, wow…. The St. Louis Cardinals are back in town, the first full practice of Spring Training starts today, and I just had to go check out what was going on. I was only there a short while, but saw a lot of the familiar faces. Johnny Peralta and Greg Garcia took batting practice from Kevin Siegrist, while Yadier Molina looked on and gave a few new comers some pointers. No autographs during practice, but if you wait at the exit of the parking lot many of the guys will stop and give them out as the leave. I have heard certain players only give them when they arrive, and that time is sometime between 6 and 7:30. Will Ferrell, the comedian actor known for his roles in movies such as Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Old School, as well as sports movies Semi-Pro and Kicking & Screaming is boldly going where no actor has gone before. On Thursday, Ferrell will participate in all eight Cactus League Spring Training games scheduled for that day in Arizona. He will play for various teams and will look to play all nine positions on the field during those eight games. In order to get to the various stadiums on time, Ferrell will travel via helicopter. The stunt is being dedicated to the fight against cancer and will raise money for Stand Up 2 Cancer and Cancer for College. Bert Campaneris a former infielder who is famous for playing all nine positions in a game for the Athletics on September 8th, 1965, will join Ferrell. Funny or Die & MLB Productions are filming the entire thing for an upcoming special on HBO. This won’t be the first time Ferrell will apart of a baseball game either. Back in 2010 and playing the character of Ray “Rojo” Johnson, Ferrell was ejected from a Round Rock Express game after throwing just one pitch for the then triple A Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Houston Astros. Ferrell also famously had a pizza delivered to the mound before throwing the first pitch at Wrigley Field in Chicago for a Cubs game in 2012. Will Ferrell throws out a ceremonial first pitch and eats a slice of Famous Chicago Deep Dish Pizza before the Chicago Cubs Miami Marlins game at Wrigley Field in 2012.
