So I decided, let’s see what happens here…. I drove to Alaska in 1999 and even up above the Arctic Circle… Did you know, there really is a place called Chicken Alaska? One of the remaining gold rush towns, the population is less than 20. It was suggested they name it for the state bird of Alaska the Ptarmigan, but no one could spell it, so they named it chicken...

Read More »Prince is one of those artists who went out and did their own thing, drawing from highly varied influences; he made exciting music that crossed genres. In my childhood he was frequently on the radio, I may or may not have owned multiple copies of Purple Rain on cassette due to overplaying that ruined the tape. Songs like “Let’s go crazy”, “Darling Nikki” and “When Doves Cry,” still make me stop flipping the radio dial. I am also old enough to have actually partied like it’s 1999 on the eve of the new Millennium. A theme for many of us for the entire year, but that New Year’s Eve holds special memories for me. It is sad we lost such another great guitarist and song writer. While look for a quote to commemorate his life, I thought this one fit so perfectly: “Music is music, ultimately. If it makes you feel good, cool.” I couldn’t of said it better myself, Prince! So, dust off those cassettes and pop in a Prince tape if you still have a player, turn it up loud, in remembrance of the legend....
