34th Anniversary of John Lennon’s Death
Today is the 34th Anniversary of John Lennon’s Murder by Mark David Chapman. Now in prison, he pled guilty to murdering John Lennon on December 8, 1980. Lennon was shot outside The Dakota apartment building in New York City. Chapman fired at Lennon five times, hitting him four times in his back. Remaining at the scene of the crime, Chapman was apprehended reading J. D. Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye, and stated repeatedly, that the novel was his statement.
John Lennon was taken from us at a very young age, the front man for arguably one of the biggest music act of all time, The Beatles. Some of the records they hold include being the best-selling music artist ever, with an estimated 600,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 sales worldwide to date. They have the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s (20) of all time, and are the only group to have held both the #1 and #2 spots in the US album chart for nine straight weeks on two separate occasions. During the week of April 4, 1964, the Beatles held twelve positions in the Billboard Hot 100, including the top five spots; neither feat has ever been repeated.
John Lennon spoke to those kids of the 60s, and in turn those kids passed on their love of the easy going, and some times psychedelic sounds. Strawberry Fields is a memorial in Central Park, New York City, NY. It was dedicated on what would of been Lennon’s 45 birthday October 9, 1985. The entrance is directly across from the Dakota Building where he was murdered in 1980.
A few days ago on The Jonathan Ross Show, Paul McCartney opened up about the death of John Lennon, and the effect that had on him.
We miss John, RIP
